Every year it happens the same way. Someone says “we should do something for the
holidays,” November disappears, and suddenly it is December, the good venues are
taken and the team is getting a playlist on a phone and a speaker in the corner.

Your people worked hard this year. The holiday party is your chance to say thank
you, and the music decides whether they remember it. Here is our checklist for planning
a company holiday party in DC, Maryland or Virginia that people still talk about
in January.

## 1. Lock in the date early

December weekends are the busiest time of year for venues, caterers and DJs across
the DMV, and the most popular dates go first. If you are still deciding between
a Friday night, a weekday lunch or a January “New Year” party, choose now.

A January celebration is not a consolation prize, by the way. Your team is rested,
calendars are clearer, and you get more choice of dates and venues.

## 2. Know the vibe before you book

Before you call anyone, answer three questions:

 * **Who is coming?** A team of fifteen at a restaurant is a different night from
two hundred people in a ballroom with partners and families.
 * **What is the goal?** A relaxed thank-you dinner, an awards night, or a full
party with a packed dance floor?
 * **What is the timeline?** Will there be speeches, awards, a raffle or a toast
   from the CEO?

When you request a quote, share your date, your venue and the vibe you want. That
is all we need to start planning the music around your night.

## 3. Plan the flow of the night

The best events have a shape. Music should do a different job at each stage:

 * **Arrival and networking:** background music that lets people talk and still
   sets the mood.
 * **Dinner:** warm and easy, never so loud that people have to shout across the
   table.
 * **Speeches and awards:** clean transitions, a walk-up song for each winner, and
someone ready to keep the energy up between presentations. Let your DJ know if
you need someone on the mic for announcements.
 * **Party time:** this is where the dance floor opens. Build up gradually, read
the room and peak at the right moment.
 * **Last song:** end on a high so people leave talking about the night, not drifting
out as the lights come up.

Handing this plan to your DJ ahead of time means no awkward silences and no scrambling
when the CEO is ready to speak.

## 4. Build a playlist for every generation

Office parties bring together people of every age and background. That is a good
thing, as long as the music reflects it. A great DJ moves between eras and styles
so everyone gets their moment: 90s and 2000s R&B for one table, hip hop for another,
amapiano and Afrobeats for the people who came to dance, and the classics nobody
can resist.

If you want a taste of how we mix across eras, listen to [The Golden Era Mixtape](https://deejaystaycool.com/the-golden-era-mixtape/)
or watch our sets on the [Videos](https://deejaystaycool.com/medias/videos/) page.

Do share a short must-play list and a do-not-play list. Your DJ should know your
team’s favorites, and which songs are better left for another crowd.

## 5. Think beyond the music

The music is the heartbeat of the night, but it is not the only moving part. If
you are juggling the venue, the schedule, the vendors and your actual job, our [event coordination](https://deejaystaycool.com/what-we-do/event-coordination/)
service can plan and run the details with you, from the first call to the last song.

## What clients say

We have been part of company celebrations across the DMV, and we take that trust
seriously. In the words of Adam Cheise, Head of Sales at Intel:

> “We hired CNM DJs for our company’s annual holiday party, and it was a fantastic
> experience from start to finish.”
